What makes a society just?

In order for a society to be just the leader must maintain a structured set of rules for his people.  Without this, the whole system would fail and yet another screwed up country would be created.  He also needs to ensure the people's feeling of safety because if this isn't supplied, the people won't cooperate with the government.  Honestly, I think naturally, people are "bad" but more specifically naturally selfish. I believe that without a doubt, without rules and laws, people would be what we call bad today. Rules and relationships are what shape how we act and what our morals are and without them, we'd have no knowledge of manners, kindness, or generosity.  Honor codes significantly change how we all act because if we disobey, we feel guilt.  A society that is just is a society with a strong but fair leader and one that contains peaceful relationships between his people.

  1. The mandate of heaven is the idea that rulers and leaders become leaders because they were chosen. I think both a ruler and his people should have close to the same levels of authority.

I definitely agree with legalism because no matter how much faith we have in people, rules and laws will always be necessary. The population will always have a percent of people that will make poor choices that deserve consequences. Without the fear of consequence, our world would be hectic.
